The Influence of Evaluative Concerns Perfectionism on Procrastination of College Students: the Sequential Mediating Effects of Repetitive Negative Thought and Negative Affect

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to verify the sequential mediating effect of repetitive negative thought and negative affect(depression/anxiety) in the relationship between evaluative concerns perfectionism and general procrastination, academic procrastination among university students. For this, 229 participants conducted the survey through online forms. The measurement tools used in this study included the Multi-dimensional Perfectionism Scale(FMPS, HMPS), General Procrastination(GP), Academic Initiation Procrastination Scale(AICPS), Korean Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire, K-PTQ), Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale(CES-D), and Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI). Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis were performed using SPSS 23.0 for the collected data. Bootstrapping was conducted using PROCESS Macro ver. 4.1. The findings of this study are as follows: Firstly, evaluative concerns perfectionism, general procrastination, academic procrastination, repetitive negative thought, and negative affect(depression/anxiety) showed significant positive correlations. Secondly, there was a significant sequential full mediating effect of repetitive negative thought and negative affect(depression/anxiety) in the relationship between evaluative concerns perfectionism and general procrastination, academic procrastination. In conclusion, evaluative concerns perfectionism leads to general procrastination and academic procrastination through repetitive negative thought and negative affect(depression/anxiety). The study concludes by discussing the implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research.
